A Little Gem (Place Review: A Little Guest House)

“Why did you book into accommodation? I have an empty room available! I have an entire house available – with a fridge full of food! Why would you spend so much money on a guesthouse?” The list goes on …

The context

In January we travelled to Bloemfontein (Bloem) in the Free State for the 21st birthday celebrations of my first cousin once removed. Thing is, we have many family members residing in the city of roses (as Bloem is known), so the questions and comments were inevitable and expected. Nevertheless, I’m so glad we chose A Little Guest House, a self-catering guest house in Bainsvlei, as we had an amazing stay.

A friendly “hello”

Gerty welcomed us with a friendly greeting and showed us to our unit. Hubby and I stayed in 4 while momsie, my sis and her fiancé shared the bigger space, unit 1.

First impressions

The rooms are neat and tidy with crisp white bedding, a comfortable bed, DStv and everything else you could possibly need during your stay. Each unit has its own undercover parking space. The bathroom with shower has ample towels and A Little Guest House even supplies shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion, so you can travel light!

A well-equipped kitchen

The kitchen is kept tidy by the staff and has enough cutlery and crockery, milk and even a jar with fresh rusks! How lucky can one get.

My only complaint would be that we had to ask for clean towels on day 4. The rest of our family in the other unit did not have this problem.

In general

Overall, we had a fantastic stay and I would recommend A Little Guest House, approximately 7km outside Bloem, any day.

The actual reason for the trip

By the way, the 21st was held at Magic Events in Bloemfontein and was a classy affair.
