At Benguela on Main in the Western Cape’s Helderberg region, you can experience fine dining at its best.
But it was at the Whale Coast Hotel in the Overberg that I was lucky enough to see a live demonstration by the restaurant’s executive chef, Jean Delport. The advertisers (also) promised a fine dining dish demo, but unfortunately we were not that lucky.
We did, however, experience this top chef’s Frozen Pave (pronounced parvay) “Ice Cream” Sandwich, and boy, what a delicious experience it was. His skill blended with yummy ingredients like dark chocolate and whipped cream resulted in a melt-in-your-mouth dessert.
I’m not sure if I’m brave enough to try this one at home (we even got the recipe!), but perhaps I’ll venture over to Benguela on a very special occasion to treat myself once more. You know, sometime in the future.
